Based on a design of rubber fun tyre commonly found in beach-side shops that was a common feature of childhood holidays for me ‘Super Fun Tyre’ is a hand painted slip cast ceramic. It plays with ideas of form and function. Representative of the original but devoid of its function, it acts a souvenir to the memory of beach and pool days past. A nostalgic object it becomes ‘activated’ when moving around the piece, the mirrored perspex angled to create changing patterns via reflection of the surrounding structure.
The lettering creates a hopeful message that becomes melancholic in the context of the closed down pool space.
